Lady Shriram

Lady Shri Ram College for Women (LSR), is a constituent college of the University of Delhi. It is widely recognized as one of the premier institutions for liberal arts education in India. Established in 1956 in New Delhi by the late Sir Shri Ram in memory of his wife, the college had its modest beginnings in a school building in Daryaganj, Central Delhi, with 243 students, 9 faculty, 4 support staff and 3 distinct courses of study. The aim of the institution was to provide access to higher education of quality to women.
Today, the college is located in a 15 acre campus in Lajpat Nagar in South Delhi, has approximately 2000 students, over 150 faculty, administrative and support staff and 16 courses of study.[] LSR's infrastructure includes a newly refurbished, computerized user-friendly library with internet access and 98,000 books, 5,000 bound volumes and audio-visual cassettes[]; a students' cafeteria and a counselling and placement cell. Sports training facilities for lawn tennis, basketball, shooting, volleyball, chess, table tennis and martial arts are also available. For out-of-town students, the LSR campus houses a residence for 300 women students with an in-house library and dispensary.
Guided by a Board of Governors, drawn from the fields of industry, law, journalism, academics and the bureaucracy, under the Chairmanship of industrialist and philanthropist, Dr. Bharat Ram, the College is known for academic and extracurricular achievement. The college has consistently made it to the top 5 colleges as ranked by India Today.
Tarang, the Annual Cultural Festival of Lady Shri Ram College for Women, brings together young, talented enthusiasts from colleges across India making it one of the largest youth festivals of the country. Aside from the College Festival, each department at LSR hosts its own academic festival every year. This provides students with a forum to interact with eminent personalities in their own fields, as well as participate in competitions ranging from debates to paper presentations.
Lady Shri Ram College has a rich tradition of staging plays in Hindi and English. The annual Public Production is one of the most important theatrical events in college. In 2003, Shri Habib Tanvir directed Mujhe Amrita Chahiye, Amrita, a play written by Yogesh Tripathi and in 2004, LSR staged Mira a play written by Gursharan Das and directed by M.K. Raina
