Jesus & Mary College, established in 1968, is run by the sisters of Jesus & Mary Congregation which originated in France in 1818. The aim of JMC has been to make God Known to young and the destitute. With over 2400 regular students in the college, the college focuses on all round development of the students and seeks to make them successful in both their professional and personal life by providing a healthy academic environment. It has over 2400 regular students in the college. It is a center for Non Collegiate Women's Education Board, and the IGNOU or the Indira Gandhi National Open University.

The college has a sprawling campus that extends over a vast area of 14 acres. There is a large teaching block with separate tutorial rooms, games rooms, canteen, laboratories and a huge library with over 40000 books and periodicals. Presently a multi-purpose auditorium is also under construction. The college also has separate sports fields for hockey, football & cricket and courts for lawn tennis and volley ball.

JMC offers B.A. (Hons) courses in Economics, English, History, Hindi, Mathematics, Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology. The college also offers B.A. (pass) courses along with a four year professional degree programme called Bachelor of Elementary Education which enables students to teach at the elementary level (Grade I to Grade VIII). The college also offers courses to those women who are unable to join a regular course due to some external constraints.

Admission to under graduate programme depends upon the percentage of marks obtained in 10+2 or its equivalent with the cut-offs for last year being well in excess of 90% for most courses. The English department conducts an entrance test for admission to the B.A. (Hons) English courses. The college also reserves seat for students in the sports quota.
